The sky has been destroyed by primordial goddess Tiamat, leaving its strongest soldiers without memory, and all gods and magic banished to the underworld.
A scrawny barista would love nothing better than to be disqualified - or skipped over entirely - from military service, but the elvish dakshini have other plans for him.
A true believer yearns to change all of history and release the gods from the underworld - while Bee, keeper of a menagerie for monsters, just wants to be left alone by all the Big Happenings™️ of the world, so she can finally have a cup of coffee... but banished magic - and baby dragons - keep getting in her way.

Author's Note: This is an origin story in a fantasy world I've been slowly building since 2016 - it may turn out to be a 1000+ page novel or it may turn out to be a series. I generally don't like the idea of extending books into a series just for sales, but I also want to listen to feedback from my readers: if you prefer shorter books, then maybe we'll do just that.
